The MFC Professional

Surveys

Every so often, we'll run a survey to get a finger on the pulse of the MFC community. Although we also run a round table discussion group and a consulting discussion group that you might be interested in, these surveys are intended to collate mostly multiple-choice responses from many people.

Our first survey below is designed to let you tell us the best way to run this forum. We'd like to offer several different features of interest to the professional MFC programmer, but we need your feedback so we can determine what's useful and what's not.

Before you fill out this survey, please familiarize yourself with the "lay of the land" -- explore our site a little, and see what we're planning to offer. That will help us get the most useful responses. Thanks.

Experience
How long have you been using the Microsoft Foundation Classes? We're talking about the total time you've actually been using them 8+ hours a day to write real programs. (Spending two months perusing the Scribble app during your spare time doesn't count! ) If you're writing programs part-time, cut your experience in half, because we're talking about full-time experience.

MFC FAQ Previews
We are very excited to be able to offer an exclusive weekly preview of new items that will be included in Scot Wingo's MFC FAQ. What is your level of interest in this feature?

MFC-L Archives
We are also proud to offer a complete, organized archive of David Elliott's famous MFC-L mailing list. What is your level of interest in this feature?

Newbie Tips
In addition, we will be offering a weekly feature of MFC newbie tips for those who are just starting out. What is your level of interest in this feature?

Product Gallery
We are offering a feature called The Product Gallery which lists several hundred products by category, along with pricing and vendor contact information. Assuming we do not include reviews of these products, and simply list a brief description of each, what is your level of interest in this feature?

Product Reviews
Along with product listings, we are considering doing a certain number of product reviews. What is your level of interest in reading product reviews on this site?

Consulting Threads
We would like to offer a section on consulting and contract programming. This section would offer discussion threads on various topics. Through the use of some clever forms, you'll be able to add your comment and instantly see it appear in the thread. Some of the topics we're going to start with are "Should you use a broker?", "Ethics in programming", "Getting clients to pay on-time", "Should you hire people or just subcontract?", "Preventing the dreaded tax audit", etc. What would your level of interest in this be?

Technical Threads
We are also planning to offer discussion threads on various technical topics of direct interest to the MFC professional community, like "A comparison of grid controls", "Using MFC libs versus OLE components", "A comparison of development environments", etc. What would your level of interest in this be?

Interview Questions
Another idea we would like to pursue is a forum of discussion threads relating to interview questions. We all, from time to time have to either ask them or answer them, and we thought it would be interesting to offer up a collection of them, and allow you to add some questions (or answers) of your own. We figure it'll help us all be better prepared. What would your level of interest in this be?

List of Professionals
We would like to offer a service that allows you, and other professionals, to list themselves so that organizations can find you (via email) and hire you, either for contract work, or for full-time employment. If we offered this to you for free, and we made it relatively anonymous (so your boss won't get wind of it) would you be interested in listing yourself?

Help Wanted
We are considering putting together a classified section, where employers can list job openings, and professionals can respond. This would be a completely free service for you. How interested would you be in a service like this?

User Groups
We are thinking about starting a list of local MFC / C++ user groups in various metropolitan areas. How interested would you be in a list like this?

General Interest Level
Seeing what you've seen so far, what is your level of interest in this site in general?

Visitation Frequency
Assuming we take your input into consideration (which we will! ) and seeing what you've seen so far, how often do you think you would visit this site?

How did you find out about this site?

Your Comments
We'd like to thank you for taking the time to fill out this survey. Your input is going to help us make this the premier site on the Web for MFC consultants and other professionals. If you have any comments you'd like to add at this time, either about the site or about this survey, please feel free to do so now.

Please don't submit this form more than once. Thanks!
