How have you prepared for the MS certification exams?
Date: 26 August 96, 19:11 EDT From: Markus NuebelSince I want to be certified as a Microsoft Certified Solution Developer within the next 4-6 months, I`m interested in experiences of developers who are already certified or who are preparing at the moment. How have you prepared for the MCSD exams? What are your experiences?
Date: 2 September 96, 19:29 EDT From: Rick Braley Email: braley@sky.netI just completed my fourth required exam for the MCSD a few weeks ago. I prepared for the WOSA exams by using the exam outlines available from Microsoft and reading the various reading materials specified in the outlines. For the other two exams, I attended an official Microsoft Certified course on VB 4.0 and SQL Server. By using the course materials and the exam outlines available I successfully passed all four tests. There are also some programs available to help drill you on the materials in the exams. For the WOSA exams, try WOSSA-I-CERT & WOSSA-II-CERT from Transcender Corporation 242 Louise Ave., Nashville, TN. 37203-1812, 615-327-1858. They also have a VB-CERT which covers VB 3 and may be updated by now for VB 4. Also, the Roadmap CD ROM available from MS has some practice exams which you can take.
Date: 4 September 96, 2:29 EDT From: Markus NuebelIs it right, that the core WOSA I + II exams are harder than the selectable exams? Somewhere on the net i`ve read that the core exams cover much theory in contrast to the selectables.
Date: 24 September 96, 19:34 EDT From: Rick Braley Email: braley@sky.netYes, the WOSA exams are more theoretical in nature. They cover higher level topics like ODBC, TAPI, MAPI, etc. I found the exams challenging. Take the time to prepare using the reference materials I listed in an earlier posting to this thread and you should be ok.

Date: 30 January 97, 14:06 EDT From: Walter Pinson Email: wpinson@gmu.eduI too and on the road to obtaining the MCSD. I have already passed both WOSA exams with flying colors. If it is true that those are the most difficult exams, I guess that I can coast the rest of the way. I must say that my instincts lead me to believe otherwise. I can only imagine that the MFC exam will be the hardest of them all for the simple fact that there is so much material to cover. You have to know theory as well as implementation. I am studying for the SQL server and the MFC exams now. Can someone offer some guidance in regards to taking the MFC exam? Also, finding an ATEC that offer classes 476 and 480 is like finding a needle in a haystack. When you do find a company that offers the course, they cancel because not enough people are signing up for the class. Then they have the nerve to ask you if you want to take a Visual Basic course. ..... I don't think so. Anyway, please share comments and insights about these issues.
Date: 10 July 97, 10:31 EDT From: boB Taylor, MCSE and 3/4 MCSD Email: BTaylor@MetroIS.comHas anybody found the reference material for the last learning objective published my Microsoft for the MFC exam? Specifically: Identify issues associated with the distribution of MFC applications on RISC platforms. I can only assume they are referencing objects not derived from CObject, and the big-endian, little-endian saving of objects to disk?
