MFC FAQ SNEAK PEEK #5
Our exclusive preview of Scot Wingo's upcoming additions

Q. Is there going to be a MFC PDC this year?

A. Yes and no.

The only 100% Microsoft PDC was the internet PDC in March. There was a Microsoft co-sponsored Visual C++/MFC event called Visual C++ Developers Conference and there'll be a magazine from these folks too later this year!

Finally, some inside information from a mysterious Microsoftie who prefers to remain anonymous (we'll call him 'Deep Code')

MFC 2.0 was code named Fulcrum when we released the initial spec to a select group of people called the "Fulcrum Advisory Council". At the time we were actually still working on MFC 1.0 and C/C++ 7.0, but knew where we wanted to take things so brought in some people to help us out.

The code name for MFC was always Foundation, since we were building the Foundation classes. We just stumbled across MFC. The name of our group was AF (we merged two groups and one was already called the Application Framework group, so we just added the "X" to make it a new group). There was an article in MSDN and in the MSND newsletter in 1994 that talks about the history of the group. I don't have a copy any more though.

Who am I? I was a developer and project lead on MFC 1.0 and 2.0. Dean McCrory joined AFX towards the end of MFC 2.0's product cycle (CEditView was his first contribution). I left while we were working on 2.5 to go to another group.
