So, you walk into your apartment and find some knife-wielding punk in a ski mask raping your wife and beating her senseless with a crowbar. After using your .357 magnum to blow the scumbag to hell, you get a call from Al Sharpton or Ron Kuby (the communist lowlife who sued Bernie Goetz) chastising you for using excessive force and urging you to hand your life savings over to the rapist's family. Of course, there was a time when criminals got away with a lot less, and Alcatraz Island was one of the places that housed them. The infamous Northern California prison was a real fortress, and not too many dudes escaped. This fascinating site provides a detailed history of Alcatraz as well as information on tours of the island, which has long ceased to be a penitentiary and now caters to tourists. Of course, if you get sued for killing the punk who was raping and beating your wife, you might not be able to afford too much traveling. Ah, the joys of political correctness!
